When I am still, within, I hear the sound of the One Song.
It is not a sound like any earthly sound; it is high and unutterably sweet and harmonious, a many layered sound that makes up the One sound.
I have not always heard it. My husband spoke to me of hearing this sound since he was a little boy, but I could not hear it then. I went to see a dear friend and mentioned this sound to her and she said: “Oh! I hear that … it is the sound of my Soul”. And when she said that, it was as if a switch flicked on and I could hear it too.
Since that time, the sound of my Soul, the One Song, has guided me through life, on my way home. Sometimes I cannot hear it, and I know that whatever I am doing or not doing is no longer true for me. Sometimes it seems faint and far away, but when I realise that now, I stop, still myself and go deeper within until the sound is strong and clear again. Sometimes it feels close, but not a part of me.
And when I am on fire, the sound is in and through me; it fills my body, which vibrates with the One Song, and radiates out through everyone and everything around me.
For this sound passes through us all. It is the sound of our Soul, the One Song of the Universe, the vibration of Space, which is God. It is where we come from, who we are and what we are returning to.
It is never turned on, for it is never turned off. It is we who choose to move in a way where we can hear it, feel it, vibrate with it, resonate with it, or not. For we are either singing with the One Song of the Universe, or dancing to another tune.
Of course, it is not always easy to hear the One Song, as nearly everything in this world seems designed to drown it out, but it is always there if we are willing to be still, go deeper, and be open to receiving it …
I have found my way home by learning to move in a way that allows me to resonate with the One Song, by learning to tune my body as a vessel to receive its vibration, by learning to honour this vessel and keep it as open and light as I can in my daily care of it, that I may receive the sound of the One Song and serve as one who sings it … this way is called The Way of The Livingness … and it is the way back home, for all of us …
I feel blessed to have this very audible, earthly reminder of who I am and the whole I am a part of. Perhaps we don’t all need to be reminded in such an obvious way that we are Divine and part of the One Song of the Universe. Or perhaps the Universe speaks to us in other ways – the sound of bird song, or the waves on the ocean, or the wind in the trees, or the sound of a voice, or the light in another’s eyes, or the touch of a hand, or the beat of our heart – but however it speaks to us, let us embrace it with open arms and let it guide our way home, back to the One Song we all sing, as One …
